A budget dedicated to community projects is helping youngsters to revamp their village play areas.
Dacorum Borough Councillors are given £2,000 a year to spend on projects and Derek Townsend is using his to fund new equipment.

He decided to give the last two years of funding, totalling £4,000, to the young people who make up Tring Rural Youth P
roject.

The cash is being looked after by Tring Rural Parish Council, which has already pledged money to the group, but it is the youngsters, ranging from six years old to 14, who will decide how to spend it.

Cllr Townsend, who represents Tring West, said: "It started with the children coming to me at a parish council meeting about six months ago and they said they had nothing at Long Marston and Wilstone for playing. I said come up with a description of what you would like."

They decided they wanted to revamp playgrounds in the two villages and also have big plans for a skatepark in the future. Already some of the money has been spent on new equipment, including goal posts.

Cllr Townsend said: "It looks like it is going to be a long term project. I think it is fantastic."

He will make a presentation of this year's £2,000 allocation to the young people during a Tring Rural Parish Council meeting next month (September).
