A water turbine is to be installed at the Apsley Paper Trail to generate green energy for the attraction.
The turbine will produce two kilowatts of power for the charity and it is expected to save three tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
Jacky Bennett, CEO at the Paper Trail, said: "Not only will the water turbine contribute to our energy conservation, but it will give us a terrific centrepiece to showcase our new energy zone.
"Up to 50,000 visitors a year will see the benefit of water power."
In the past water power has been harnessed at the Frogmore Mill site using a wheel.
The turbine has been made possible thanks to a £30,000 grant from power company E.ON.
Spokesman Tony Jenkin Jones said: "We're delighted to be able to contribute towards this exciting project for the Apsley Paper Trail.
"They're looking to use a renewable source of energy for their visitor centre, as well as minimising their impact on the environment and making significant cost savings."
The Paper Trail is home to the world's first mechanical paper machine and its new visitor centre showcases the history and future of industrial paper making.
