A vandalised bench, swamped in litter, is a sorry sight for families and dog walkers using a park in Hemel Hempstead.
Dog walker Margaret Coxage sent us this picture after spotting the destroyed seating in Northridge Park, Warners End, last week.

She said: "As you will see it had been used by people who were allegedly having 'a good time'.

"A 'good time' being eating, drinking to excess, leaving their litter for others to remove and finally completely ruining the seat thereby making it unusable for others."

The bench has been smashed, graffitied and is surrounded by empty food and drink wrappers.

Margaret says the park's litter problem intensifies in the summer holidays and has appealed to youngsters to take their rubbish home.

She added: "A few years ago there were five seats in the park, thanks to the vandals, there are now just three."

A Dacorum Borough Council spokeswoman said an officer was sent to inspect the Northridge Park benches on Tuesday (August 26) following an email from a local resident.

She added that the council planned to fix the vandalised bench 'fairly soon'.
